True North is a two-day film-festival exploring relationships, gender-equality, marginalization, and LGBTQ in contemporary Nordic cinema. Screenings of the five selected movies are surrounded by debates and workshops. It is a main aspect to engage the participants along with guest speakers. The Nordic countries have a progressive image, and how do themes and conflicts raised in the movies resonate abroad?
The festival will kick off on Thursday 23rd with Icelandic guest speaker Reynir Eggertsson and his work on gender in the saga literature. The official opening will be at 16.00 followed by screenings of Force Majeure (SWE), Ivalu (GL), and Uncle (DK). Friday 24th opens at 12.00 with A Moment in the Reeds (FIN). The afternoon is devoted to different workshops and debates for the participants and guest speakers. The festival concludes with a screening of The Worst Person in the World (NO).
The festival is arranged and hosted by The Department of Scandinavian Studies at Charles University and Kampus Hybernska. Participation is free and open to all.
