The debate with German philosopher, writer and journalist Eva von Redecker will be led by sociologist and activist Tereza Stöckelová over the translation of her book "Revolution for Life". Moderated by historian Matěj Spurný.
Protest movements such as Black Lives Matter, Fridays for Future and NiUnaMenos are fighting racism, climate catastrophe and violence against women. Although their forms of resistance differ, all of them are fundamentally struggling with capitalism, which turns living nature into dead matter in the name of profit and property, while manifesting itself through authoritarian tendencies, racially motivated actions and climate change.
Philosopher Eva von Redecker offers a critique of it, arguing from the position of Berlin Critical Theory and using metaphors and ancient references with extraordinary care. In today's forms of protest she recognizes the beginnings of a revolution for life that promises a new, solidaristic form of our basic activities: to care instead of control, to regenerate instead of exploit, to participate instead of valorise.
The debate will be held in English, without interpretation.
