Hybrid Sessions is a monthly series at Kampus Hybernská. We feature an opening improvised duo set with two musicians coming from different backgrounds to form a new constellation. Afterwards, we host a jam session open to all musicians, regardless of background.
This time Timothée Quost will perform with trumpet and Ken Ganfield with electronics.
We want to create an open environment where musicians feel free to be creative in the moment, nothing is predetermined and the only expectation is a high level of presence. A basic backline will be provided. Additionaly we're open for people to suggest the line up of the group so the group doesn't have to be currated by us anymore. Anyway we want to keep Hybrid Sessions being a platform for experimenting so please: no already existing bands
- The young French musician Timothée Quost first studied classical music and holds an MA in jazz, but his interest soon shifted to free improvisation and the possibilities offered by extended techniques. As an improviser, composer and trumpeter, he has collaborated with a number of ensembles and musicians, including improvising composers Alvin Curran and Fred Frith, well-established French improvisers Jean-Luc Guionnet and Michel Doneda, as well as Czech trombonists Jan Jirucha and Štěpán Janoušek.
In his practice, Quost attempts to overcome both apparent and implicit boundaries between genres, such as jazz, free improvisation and composition, with his orchestral projects breaking down the barriers between the music school tradition and contemporary music. His playing and compositions are characterised by a patient exploration of timbre and an ingenious use of contact microphones that allows for an unconventional, one might say intimate, spatial positioning of the trumpet sound. - Prague based American sound experimentator and improviser Ken Ganfield is much more precise and delicate, almost in surgical way. During his shows he's working mostly with modular synthetisers, creating aleatory composition of different sound and styles. He is also well known as a passionate and a bit mysterious collector of all kinds of electronic widgets, home made gadgets and suprising hacks. Therefore the crucial question before the show begin is: what he has brought for tonight?
