HYB4 Galerie: Vladimír Skrepl: Esoteric Break

Vladimír Skrepl's exhibition as part of the opening of the autumn exhibition season and the new school semester 24/25 in the HYB4 Galerie of the Kampus Hybernská presents an extensive collection of the artist's works from private collections and a selection by the author himself.

Skrepl, an artist and former pedagogue at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), will present distinctive, many times unseen works representing an insight into his unique artistic style and personality. His work has influenced a whole range of artists due to its freedom, indiscriminate and cheeky handwriting, which often does not take any censorship.

Vladimír Skrepl is a personality who is not simple either in art or in life. He is shrouded in a certain veil of mystery, and after our brief but intense collaboration I realized that many people who know him may not actually know him at all. I often ask myself if it stems from his modesty, constant irony, or the need to downplay what is supposed to be great in the eyes of a person living in an environment of material values. But be that as it may, writing about Vladimir Skrepl in detail is not what I want to focus on right now. Suffice it to mention his extensive knowledge, depth of thought and wit, which are inseparably linked to his work, and which are values ​​available to those who dare for them.

Skrepl's work is not for everyone. It is bold and uncompromising, often brutally honest. In many ways, he resembles the strongest global talents of the last decades and deserves more attention outside the Czech art scene. At first glance, his work may seem crude, even cruel. However, once one penetrates beneath the surface of these first impressions, one discovers the honest truth. The playfulness and freshness of the color combinations seem to come directly from the author's soul, which is dynamic, unstable and constantly searching for new forms and meanings in the world it inhabits. Vladimír Skrepl and his work have an undeniable influence on the art scene, reshaping its values ​​and directions. And although he has now retired from teaching at the academy, he remains a source of inspiration and knowledge.

The Esoteric Break is a symbolic mystification. The question remains whether this hiatus is ending or just beginning. In both cases, however, it brings change - both for Vladimír Skrepl and for the global environment, which is on the threshold of new thinking, or at least the search for it. The exhibition presents Skrepl's work in a broader context, not retrospectively. The selection of works from the last three decades includes works that have rarely been presented to the public. This selection not only recapitulates the artist's legacy, but also returns him to forgotten memories and offers an overall contemplation of his work.

The collaboration with Vladimír Skrepl in the HYB4 Galerie of the Hybernská Campus follows on from the presentations of a number of important Czech artists and represents a challenge for the curatorial team to reflect extraordinary personalities in the field of art.
